Following the various mule tracks that exist throughout the Atlas is a perfect method of discovering the less-known and actual face of Morocco, the Moroccan Atlas is a spread of outstanding magnificence and cultural curiosity and can disclose to you the unison through which native Berber folks and nature reside right here. Experience the extraordinary hospitality of the native Berber folks, the wealthy texture of North African life and the unique attraction of Marrakech, and you will discover out why a rising variety of trekkers are selecting this nice place, whith the traditional Greeks regarded as the household of the Atlas! Although initially of a sheep herders nature the Berber tribes have remained primarily ungovernable, retaining their very own tradition, language, customs and music wich make the entire surroundings overwhelming.

On this journey we make a circle trek across the highest part of the Atlas – Toubkal massif, discover quite a few Berber villages and valleys, climb 3000m of mountain passes, spend an evening on the pristine Ifni Lake and climb the highest peek of North Africa: the famous Toubkal peak (4167m).

Day 01

When arriving to Marrakech, a warm welcome awaits you by your driver / guide in the Menara airport. Destination, your hotel or Riad where you can be given time to settle in and clean up. Within the night take an orientation tour together with your driver, and witness the carnivalesque public sq. of Djemaa el-Fna come alive at sundown.

Day 02

Immediately we begin with a visit to Imlil village (1,800 m) a necessary starting point for climbing within the Atlas Mountains. In Imlil we meet our staff and as soon as all our luggage is loaded on the mules we begin our trip to Tacheddirt village (one of the most beautiful villages in Morocco - 2300 m). We move by the small village of Tamatert and shortly the path begins to rise as we climb to reach Tizi n'Tamatert (2279 m). As soon as we are on the huge Imenane valley with quite a few scattered villages, it will reveal its magnificence to you. We stroll on the higher slopes of the valley and later descend to the gorgeous village of Ouaneskra and proceed, for an extra half-hour to Tacheddirt, where you can spend the night in a nice inn . Mountain climbing time: 5 hours

Day 03

After an early breakfast we start our first hard day, when we go all the way up to one of the highest passes in Toubkal area, the Tizi Likemt (3555 m) passing shepherds with their flocks of sheep and goats. After lunch on the top we trek down to the shelters of Likemnt where we set our camp. 6 to 7 hours walking. / +1255 // - 800 m. Hiking time: 6:30 hour

Day 04

We go for a stroll alongside the Ourain river until the Ourain pass of 3100 m. from where we have a really good view over the villages of Amsouzert and to the south face of the Toubkal peak. After a relaxation we trek right down to Amsouzert, where you will spend the night in a native Berber home. Mountain climbing time: 6-7 hours

Day 05

This hike is shorter and simpler. We begin in the south of the valley of the Assif Izli, we pass by many Berber villages until we arrive at Lake Ifni (2295 m) the place we will take our picnic within the midst of quiet waters and steep slopes of looming mountains. Right here we arrange the camp. You'll be able to both go for a stroll across the lakeshore or, in keeping with the season, take a swim within the lake whereas our night's meal is being ready. Mountain climbing time: four hours

Day 06

We begin early within the morning and ascend Toubkal (4167 m) by the North road. We admire nice views of the Anti Atlas and the villages of Armed and Imlil. After a while on the height we descend from the mountain to the Neltner refuge and spend one other evening there. Mountain climbing time: 7-8 hours (ascend 4-5 h, descend 2-3 h)

Day 07

After a relatively late breakfast we trek right down to Imlil passing by the Shamharouch sanctuary and a nice village. Lunch will probably be served close to Armed. From right there we have 1 extra hour trek right down to Imlil. Then we take back the road to Marrakech. Anticipated arrival at around 5pm. Mountain climbing time: four hours

Day 08

Discover Marrakech and relax during your final day trip exploring the unique ocher city with a guided tour, admiring its stunning Koutoubia mosque and fabulous central square of Djemma-el-fna. Packed with various colors, spicy aromas, merchants, snake charmers and fortune tellers - Djemma-el-fna Sq. is a real feast for the entire family!

Day 09

Private transfer to Marrakech Menara airport.

  • During the trekking your main luggage will be transported on mules. Maximum luggage weight per person – 20kg. All you have to carry during the day is a daypack, with daytime essentials such as water bottle, camera, waterproof gear etc…
  • Necessary equipment: sleeping bag, waterproof clothes, hiking boots, sunglasses and sun hat. For the full list of recommended equipment please see our trip dossier...
  • The maximum altitude attained on this trek is not great and we spend only one night at just above 3000 metres/10,000 feet. This means that altitude acclimatisation is not usually a problem. However this trek does involve some days with a good deal of ascent and descent and one or two of the days are quite long, although broken with leisurely lunches in the shade.
  • Good physical condition and moderate trekking experience is required
  • You can modify the itinerary according to your specific dates, budget, interests or cities of arrival or departure
  • The tour can be shortened, extended or modified to end wherever as the guests wish
  • Tour difficulty: C - D, moderate - difficult
  • Recommended travel period of the year: end of May – September
